Developed from footage of Che's durational performance Maintenance in Progress, this feature-length film invites viewers to experience the vivid colours and lush materiality of clay through intimate close-ups and patient long takes. On screen, Che slowly blurs with the surface and texture of clay as mineral oxides stain her skin, creating a deep connection between body and earth. This work is inspired by Lee Carruthers' writing, which urges us to experience cinematic time as an active process - something we do as viewers, rather than a background for the narrative. The film's duration invites viewers to slip from the rush of capitalist time and experience the slow geological transformations embodied by clay.
